The next time you're craving pizza, why not try a vegan one? This pizza is made from 100% plants. It's good for the planet and good for you. I made up the recipe myself and the pizzabun has turned out perfect every time, it's got loads of good stuff inside it, so it's healthy.
Homemade Vegan Pizzabun:
3dl of lukewarm water
1/2 of fresh yeast
2 tablespoons of oil
1/2 a teaspoon of salt
4 dl of white flour
3 dl of barley flour
1 tablespoon of Superlife's Supergreen mix. It contains spirulina, carob, maca, chlorella, lucuma, kelp and barley grass, but you can also use plain spirulina if you can't find it.
Mix the water with the yiest until it's completely mixed together. Then add the rest of the ingredients.
It's green! I promise, you won't be able to taste the Supergreen mix, but it will be good for you and don't be afraid of the white flour either. White flour isn't bad for you, in fact it's got high levels of protein! It's true that white flour doesn't contain enough fibre, but you'll get plenty of fibre from the other components. Some groceries that are healthy lack fibre and while it's very important to include enough fibre in your diet, that' doesn't make white flour dangerous. White sugar, on the other hand, is downright bad for you and a lot of groceries that contain white flour often also contain sugar or high levels of saturated fat. The barley flour that I chose to include contains higher levels of fibre, but in return it's lower in protein.
Knead the dough with some more flour, not for long, just until it's no longer sticky. Then leave it to swell until it's twice the size.
While you wait for the dough to swell you can chop up your veggies. Forget about the rules and put on anything that you love!
Shape your swollen pizzadough into a square or a circle or maybe a triangle? Why the hell not. I went for a classic circle.
Now you cover that whole thing with a coat of oil. That's what they do in the fast food industry and that's why their pizza's taste so good. Then you paste on tomato pure. Cover it all with vegan cheese. There's even a vegan mozarella style cheese available and I haven't tried it, but maybe you want to?
Put on any topping of your choice! I always go crazy... I never intend to, but I always do. It's like a veggie bomb went off on that thing.
Put the pizza in the bottom of the oven at around 200 degrees and leave it there until it looks golden and done. That's me in the kitchen, I won't give you a set time, I'll make green dough and put carrot and broccoli on pizza, but that's what's so fun about cooking! You can do anything if you set your mind to it and you're the one in charge.
OK, it looks a bit dry, but it was my first attempt and I'm quite happy with it.
